Creation of a new food producing “bread basket” for the world
Form an organization dedicated to efforts of turning the Sahara and other dry areas of Africa into a bread basket.
Perhaps, use, as a model, Israel’s success at exploiting a new source of fresh water. In their case, building desalinization plants. But a much more cost efficient and ELEGANT solution would be (are you sitting down ?):
Building, for about $3 Billion dollars, a plastic 15 foot- wide pipeline, to be laid down on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, connecting the mouth of the Amazon river in South America, with Africa. This would instantly yield a huge amount of clean usable water, turning . . . in few short years, if managed in a sane manner . . . a large part of Africa into a bread basket along the likes of California.
Wow, what an “out of the box” type of PRACTICAL solution for what humanity is facing.
One can put in place an additional new tax (another 10% ?) that will be imposed on a small (another 10% ?) percent of gasoline price drops (at the pump), and target this money to alternate food production efforts and food research.
This is estimated to take $3 billion dollars, and save millions from starvation.
